Ten Tennis Caricatures By Charles Ambrose From Supplement To Lawn Tennis & Badminton.
Vintage Lawn Tennis caricature prints by Charles Ambrose. The prints were all 'Supplement to Lawn Tennis & Badminton' magazine. The ten prints are in good condition, all bar one dated 1906, single one 1907. Eight with small paper repairs to back, two with repairs to corners using an old 1907 'Supplement To Lawn Tennis & Badminton' (very well done). The ten pictures are:- S.A.E. Hickson (Hon. Treasurer of the Lawn tennis Association), Miss May Sutton, "Half Volleys", The Doctor (Dr. W.V. Eaves), Miss E.W. Thomson, G.W. Hillyard, Gore, R.F. (R.F. Doherty), Our President (W.H. Collins), G.R. Mewburn (Hon. Secretary of the Lawn Tennis Association).
Little is known of the British artist, Ambrose. He worked in oils, pen and ink and watercolours and was primarily an illustrator for the earlier magazines, illustrating personalities of the day, golfers, cricketers, croquet players and tennis players.
