Burford Watercolour By Gordon Mitchell Forsyth
Cotswold Watercolour, Tolsey Museum, By Gordon Mitchell Forsyth.
A charming watercolour by British artist Gordon Mitchell Forsyth. Although best known for his pottery Forsyth worked in several mediums as well as being a tutor. The painting is of Burford, often referred to as the 'gateway' to the Cotswolds, Burford being a small medieval town on the River Windrush, in the Cotswold hills, in the West Oxfordshire district of Oxfordshire. The view is of an early Tudor black and white timber-fronted building on stone pillars, now the Tolsey Museum. In medieval times the building was a meeting point for wool merchants with Tolls and taxes also being paid there.
Burford is located 18 miles west of Oxford and 22 miles southeast of Cheltenham, about 2 miles from the Gloucestershire boundary.
