Set Of Four Large 1920 Aintree Grand National Prints By Cecil Aldin.
A wonderful set of four Grand National coloured photolithographs, 'The First Open Ditch', 'Becher's Brook', 'Valentine's Brook' and 'The Canal Turn' after the artwork by Cecil Aldin and published by Richard Wyman. The four National Hunt horse racing scenes are from the 1920 Grand National that took place at the Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool, England, each framed picture with wash lined mounts and signed in pencil bottom left hand corner by the artist, Cecil Aldin. In the bottom right-hand corner is an artist's proof blindstamp, limited No339. Aldin appears in one of the pictures, The Canal Turn, leaning on the rail with his groom standing alongside.

The 1920 Grand National, the 79th was held on 26th March at Aintree, Liverpool, Merseyside. It is a National Hunt horse race held annually and was first run in 1839, being a handicap steeplechase over an official distance of about 4 miles and 2½ furlongs, with horses jumping 30 fences over two laps. The Grand National of 1920 was a particularly exciting race, in which only five horses finished, and was run in heavy rain. Attended by King George V and was won by the Irish horse Troytown at 6 to 1, by twelve lengths and ridden by Mr Jack Anthony and trained by Algy Anthony.
