Pair Of Cotswold Watercolours By Robert G. Upton.
A charming pair of watercolours on paper by 20th century British artist Robert G. Upton. The two paintings are of Burford, often referred to as the 'gateway' to the Cotswolds, Burford being a small medieval town on the River Windrush, in the Cotswold hills, in the West Oxfordshire district of Oxfordshire. The two views are down Burford High Street (dated 1953) and along Sheep Street. Both pictures are signed by the artist. The two hotels along Sheep Street can be spotted by their signs, The Bay Tree and The Lamb.
There is a paper trade label on the rear of the frames, framed by J. Davey & Sons, Manchester. They are slightly different sizes, both being 12 ¼ inches high, one is 17 ¾ inches wide whilst the other is an inch shorter at 16 ¾ inches.
Burford is located 18 miles west of Oxford and 22 miles southeast of Cheltenham, about 2 miles from the Gloucestershire boundary.
