Box Of Archery Arrows
Box Of Archery Arrows
Vintage Thomas Aldred Arrows in Case
A set of six vintage archery target arrows, each bearing the owner's name: Olive Knight. The arrows are fitted with metal piles (bullet-shaped heads commonly used on target arrows) and spliced nocks. Three arrows feature black and gold cresting, while the remaining three are decorated in blue and white.
The fletching is in excellent condition. Each arrow is constructed with a hardwood "footing" or "foreshaft" spliced into the main shaft, providing additional forward weight and improved flight stability.
The arrows are housed in a fitted pine case, with each arrow secured in its own bracket. Each arrow measures 63.5 cm in length.
Inside the lid is an original paper label reading:
"Thomas Aldred, Archery & Fishing Tackle Manufacturer, Holder of Six Prize Medals, 110 Edgware Road, W. (Late 258 Oxford St., W.) London. To The Emperor & Empress of the French, Prince & Princess of Wales, Queen of Denmark & Emperor of Brazil."
Target archery reached the height of its popularity during the Victorian period (1837-1901), when it became a fashionable recreational pursuit.
