Vintage Thomas Aldred Arrows In Case.
Six archery target arrows all with owners name, C. Eyre. The arrows are with metal piles (pile-a bullet-shaped head that is commonly used on target arrows), one has a spliced nock and the rest have a patent metal aluminium nock, No. 15328. The cresting is in green and gold, fletching of three balloon-shaped feathers (some damaged), hardwood "footing or foreshaft" that is spliced into the pine shaft.
The arrows come in a pine box, each arrow slotting into its own bracket and measuring 63 ½ cm long. Three of the arrows are stamped 'Aldred 3*6' and two just 'Aldred'.
The maker of the arrows is Thomas Aldred, "Thomas Aldred, Archery & Fishing Tackle Manufacturer, Holder of Six Prize Medals, 110 Edgware Road, W, (Late 258, Oxford St., W.) London".
Target archery became popular during the Victorian period (1837-1901), when recreational archery was at its height of popularity.
