Silver Arrow Prize
Silver Arrow Prize
Silver Archery Jewellery, Arrow Brooch.
A nice single silver archery arrow pin with original brooch pin. The arrow is fully hallmarked on the rear of the flight, displaying the lion passant for sterling silver, the tree assay mark for Glasgow, The Thistle mark to indicate the silver is of sterling quality (92.5% pure) and the date letter "Y" corresponding to 1921. Along with the maker's mark "G & W" for Gilmour & Watson, Mitchell Street, Glasgow. This is a lovely brooch, lapel pin or kilt pin for the archery enthusiast.
Arrow motifs were popular in late 19th and early 20th century jewellery and could symbolise love (Cupid's arrow), protection, or an interest in archery - a fashionable and socially significant sport during the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
A charming and decorative example of archery-themed jewellery.
