F.H. Ayres Kendo Mask.
A superb early 20th Century Japanese kendo fighting mask made of leather with 38 metal horizontal bars running the entire width of the mask with 5 vertical bars held together with woven wire. The sporting face mask with lovely colour and patination to the leather with original interior padded protection and leather bib. The leather is stamped 'F.H. Ayres Ltd., London, 1915. Pl. RMLI' and stenciled in black 'FOR BAYONET'. The oak stand is included, and this piece of sporting history will make a stunning center piece. Excellent condition, wear consistent with age & use. Size includes the stand.
The business and factory of F.H. Ayres (Frederick Henry) was situated at 111 Aldegate, London. From the early 1860's the firm built a reputation for its high quality sports goods, boards games as well as its rocking horses.
