Billiard Room Print after Hildemaker.
A very charming billiard lithograph by Claude Thielley (French, 1811-1891) after the original painting by Eugene Ernest Hillemacker 1818-1887.
The picture depicts a billiard room full of men, women and children with a billiard game taking place. The table is very ornate with a cat sat underneath with a wicker billiard ball basket, a priest standing to the right holding a cue and a girl in the background in charge of the score.
The main title at the top is "Etudes de moeurs" ( Studies of manners) with the subtitle centre bottom being "La partie de billard" (The game of billiards). The title is also in English and German "The Game of Billiards, Eine Billard Partie". Goupil's blind stamp is under the titles. Text lower left margin reads "Peint par Hillemacker", text lower right margin "Lith. par Thielley". The text along the very bottom reads "Berlin_Verlag von Goupil & Co. Publie par Goupil et Co. Le 1er Octobre 1858, Paris, London. New York_Published by M. Kncedler".
Note: An alternate spelling for Eugene Ernest Hillemacker is Eugene Ernest Hillemacher or Eugene Ernest Hildemaker.
