Alfred Duke, Oil On Canvas, Hounds Jumping Over A Hedge.
A very atmospheric oil on canvas of a group of foxhounds following the scent. The pack of fox hounds are jumping over a hedge and was expertly painted by British artist, Alfred Duke. Wonderfully framed, signed lower right 'A.Duke' with a paper trade label to reverse 'E. Stacy-Marks Ltd, this picture has been cleaned, restored and revarnished, 31st May 1979, Hounds Jumping Over A Hedge, A. Duke'.
Alfred Duke (1836-1915)
A British painter of whom little is known, except he lived most of his life in or around Manchester and is known for his sporting and animal paintings, particularly his hunting scenes featuring foxhounds. His artworks are done with sufficient skill, knowledge and experience and are mostly painted in oils.
