Vintage Fishing Print By Cecil Aldin, A Likely Spot.
A wonderful original fishing chromolithograph print by Cecil Aldin titled 'A LIKELY SPOT'. The picture is in the original shaped oak faced plywood frame with applied decoration of rods, nets and creels and with title. The scene is of a parson and boy who featured in many of Aldin's prints indulging in a little fishing, a similar but smaller image appears in the book of Aldin's called 'A Sporting Garland' (published in 1902 by Sands & Co). The book was in 3 sections, one each on fox-hunting, shooting and fishing. Each section had its own main illustration that was separately published as a large chromolithograph print. The fishing was titled "A Likely Spot" and as with most of Aldin's pictures in this genre there are touches of humour, frogs are seen heading for the water, a cat is peering from the long grass and a notice can be seen prohibiting fishing.
