Vintage Hardy Fly Fishing Rod, The 'Halford Knockabout'.
The Hardy 'Halford Knockabout' is a split cane Palakona 2-piece rod made by Hardy's of Alnwick. The rod is in excellent condition with 'Stud' lockjoint, thick intermediate silk whipping, agate butt and tip line guard, alloy fixed screw reel fitting with reversible butt spear with cork handle. It has the registration number H39884C dating it to 1955. The rod is 9'6" long and is in the original blue Hardy's canvas bag, with label. The rod has the painted black inscription spiralling around the shaft '#7, the 'Halford Knockabout', 'Palakona' and 'Regd. Trade Mark'. The alloy screw fitting also has Hardy's logo on it with two different Royal appointment seals.
Palakona is the trade name given by Hardy's to their best quality, the tonkin bamboo rods.
