19th Century Cabinet Maker's Tool Chest.
Antique cabinet makers tool chest with exceptional fitted interior. The master craftsman's tool chest has a heavy hinged lid opening to revealing a truly wonderful fitted interior, the inside of the lid with parquetry, the hardwood specimens including rosewood, ebony, walnut, mahogany, satin birch. The interior fitted with two banks of drawers with ebonized handles, the deep bank at the rear with eight drawers, one hidden compartment to the top, all sitting above a drawer. The front bank of drawers is thinner and has five drawers, also above a single drawer. The are three compartments in the base of the chest, the central one has a mahogany lid with flush brass ring handle, the other two are below the bank of drawers above which slide to reveal the compartments underneath, the banks of drawers can be removed from the chest. Gilt lettered plaque to lid inscribed 'F H Wren'. The lid with metal angled edges, stout keepers retain a pair of rope carry handles to either end, the chest with a painted exterior.
This is a generously sized and substantial antique master craftsman's chest sitting on four new block feet, it would make a rather distinctive coffee table or with the fitted interior drawers ideal for the specimen collector, possibly great for a watch collection.
