Aesthetic Movement Partners Desk.
A large late 19th century walnut pedestal partner's desk. The Victorian rectangular desk with a tooled green leather writing surface, each pedestal fitted with one drawer to the front and a cupboard to the rear. There are a further three drawers in the top piece. The drawers with the original handles, lock escutcheons and locks (no keys). This wonderful desk has lower balustrade gallery with shelf, raised on brass castors with ceramic wheels. The pedestals are interchangeable so you can have all drawers on one side and cupboards on the other or a mixture of a cupboard and drawers. This large and beautiful partners desk is reputed to come from the British Library and would fit in nicely as a desk to work from home, in the office or even a desk in reception.

The height of the knee hole is 59 cm.

Aestheticism (also known as the aesthetic movement) flourished in Britain in the 1870's and 1880's, but had lasting influence. The Aesthetic Movement maintained that art should not be confined to painting, sculpture, and architecture, but should be a part of everyday life. To this end, Aestheticism embraced not only the "high" arts, but also ceramics, metalwork, fashion, furniture-making, and interior design.
