A VICTORIAN GAMES COMPENDIUM.
A fabulous antique games compendium made from mahogany and veneered in the most beautiful rich coromandel wood. The compendium consists of chess, backgammon, draughts, cards, dominoes and horse racing. The box has a hinged lid and a pair of front doors that swing open and reveal the chess set. The chess pieces are Staunton. The castle and knight of each side are embossed with a red crown. The chess pieces are made of box wood and ebony and sit on brass pegs in the door to keep them in place. The lid houses the four fold leather games board which incorporates chess, backgammon and also a horse racing track. To go with the horse racing game there are two leather dice shakers, six lead horses, two fences and a water hazard with five games cards all stored in the bottom compartment of the box. In the second lift out tray there are some leather Bezique markers, leather Whist markers and two packs of new cards. The top tray contains a set of dominoes, backgammon / draught pieces, selection of dice and some pegs.
This is a wonderful compendium in excellent condition.
