Vintage Eight Mallet Croquet Set by G. Sparke, Bury
A fine quality Victorian eight-mallet croquet set by G. Sparke, presented on its original wooden stand.
The mallet heads are crafted from boxwood and stamped "G. Sparke, Bury", fitted with ash handles decorated with coloured bands to distinguish the different players. The set also includes eight matching boxwood balls with corresponding coloured bands, six bent metal hoops, two turned wooden posts and instruction leaflet.
An excellent and complete antique garden croquet set, beautifully preserved and highly decorative as well as functional.

G. Sparke of Bury St Edmunds is believed to have been a 19th-century English maker of sporting goods, noted for producing quality Victorian croquet sets and tennis equipment. While relatively little documented information survives about the maker, surviving examples are regarded as well made and collectible.

Size shown is for the stand, mallets are 86 cm in length.
