Vintage Goodall & Sons Leather Card Game Box.
A wonderful Victorian card game compendium by Goodall & Sons comprising of Whist, Bridge & Piquet. There is everything one needs to play these card games from packs of cards, markers, scorers, pencils, spare score pads and instructions. The contents are housed in a lovely case covered in tan leather with internal compartments in green silk moiré and leather. There are three leather bound instruction booklets, Whist by Captain Crawley and Bridge & Piquet by Professor Hoffmann, two Goodall rosewood 'Foster' whist markers and eight packs of cards (four full sets and four piquet decks, 32-card pack comprising of the 7's through to 10's, the face cards, and the aces in each suit). Two Goodall 'Camden' bridge markers and scoring blocks, one green and one red, with four new scoring blocks in each colour. Two more scoring blocks with pencils for piquet and bridge. A great comprehensive set for the card player.

Whist and Bridge are both trick-taking card games played with a standard 52 deck of playing cards which four persons play, two against two as partners. Whist was widely played in the 18th and 19th centuries eventually being superseded by Bridge which was derived from Whist.

Piquet is one of the oldest card games and until the early twentieth century it was perhaps the most popular card game in France, occupying a similar position to cribbage in England. Played with a 32-card pack, the chief goal to reach 100 points.
