Golf Painting Of Thurlestone Golf Club By Charles Whymper.
A wonderful framed original watercolour painting with highlights in gouache of the 4th hole at Thurlestone Golf Club, situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and located within the South Hams area of Devon. The watercolour signed by the artist, Charles Whymper, with the title '4th Thurlestone'. A great looking water colour.

The original course was designed by Charles Gibson, the Club Professional at Westward Ho!, represented today by holes 1-7 and the practice ground. The club gradually acquired more land along the cliff past the 7th green, and in 1911 J.H. Taylor was retained by the club to design a full 18-hole course, which he formally opened in 1912 when he played an exhibition match. More land was acquired over the years, and in 1923 the club purchased the land for £4,700. In 1928 Harry Colt was invited to re-model the course to incorporate the newly acquired land; his original proposed plan is on display in their clubhouse.

Taken from Thurlestone Golf Club website:-
Situated in an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', Thurlestone is a fantastic location to play golf and tennis.
Running along the stunning coastline of Bigbury Bay, this Harry Colt designed course is a mix of links and cliff-top terrain with the latter providing breath-taking views of the legendary Thurlestone Rock to the East and the beautiful Avon Estuary and Burgh Island to the West. The course is one of the most exhilarating with majestic rocky seascapes above the coves where smugglers used to operate. It is also ideal holiday golf - not too severe, with quite generous fairways but the wind, of course, can blow with a vengeance.
