Wentworth Golf Club, Original Watercolour Painting by Greenwood.
Vintage golfing watercolour of Wentworth by Ernest Greenwood.
A fine watercolour by Ernest Greenwood of Wentworth Golf Course looking towards the 18th hole and Clubhouse, signed and dated 1954.
Wentworth, the scene of the annual World Matchplay Tourament, can be seen in this fine watercolour by this 1950's Royal Watercolour Society member. This is the original work for one of a series of aquatints of golf courses published at the time by Fores and, as such, is a highly important scene of one of Britain's most famous and prestigious courses.
Ernest Greenwood was born in 1913 and studied at the Gravesend School of Art before attending the Royal College of Art from 1931 - 1935. He then spent time studying in Rome, Paris and Copenhagen. In 1973 he was invited to take the post of president of the Royal Watercolour Society, a position he held for eight years during which time he did much to help the Society recover from a time of financial difficulties.
Ernest Greenwood exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute, Royal British Academy and many provincial galleries.
