Set of Matched Playable Hickory Shafted Golf Clubs.
A very good and well-matched set of seven usable hickory shafted golf clubs, ideal for both play and display. This attractive set represents a classic early 20th century golfing era and would suit the hickory enthusiast, collector, or traditional golfer.
The Set Comprises: 1 x Wood, 2, 3 & 4 Irons, Spade Mashie, Niblick and a Putter.
All seven clubs are stamped with the original owner's initials "E.J.O.", adding a pleasing personal touch. Three of the iron heads are stamped with the "Sun Spot" cleek mark, associated with Smith Sports Co. Ltd., London - a firm established by William Percy Smith circa 1921. Two further clubs bear the well-known MacGregor "Clover" cleek mark, indicating production by the respected American maker MacGregor. The wood and niblick carry no visible maker's marks, which is not uncommon for clubs of this period. All clubs retain their original hickory shafts, grips are old suede leather, consistent with age and period, with the exception of the wood, which features a polished leather grip. The clubs are in good, usable condition, suitable for play in hickory events or for inclusion in a collection.
The set presents attractively and offers a pleasing blend of British and American club-making heritage. The golf bag shown in later images is being sold separately (#26714) at £220. Everything you need to go and play a round of golf.
The measurement shown is the length of the shaft with hosel and the width and depth of the face for the No.2 iron.
