Smooth Face Rut Niblick
Smooth Face Rut Niblick
Antique Rut Niblick.
A good quality, smooth faced, rut niblick golf club with hickory shaft. The head stamped on the back 'hand forged' with a 'golf club' cleek mark. There is the faintest maker's name within an oval, possibly Auchterlonie. A nice desirable golf collectable. The club head has a few dents to the face.
Some people categorise these types of clubs as track or rut irons, but by the late 1880's track or rut irons were being replaced by a lighter and more refined iron. These clubs were different as the head was slightly larger, the blade was not as thick and they had a shorter hosel. This type of club is now commonly referred to as a 'rut niblick'.
The measurements shown are the length of the shaft with hosel and the width and depth of the face.
