A good original persimmon wood socket head brassie with hickory shaft and new leather grip. The head marked 'T. Simpson, Special, Southport'. The club head has a leading edge horn insert and lead weight to the rear.
Thomas William Simpson was born in 1878 in Scarborough. His first professional job was at Wakefield G.C in 1899. In 1902 he was at Timperley Golf Club, Cheshire (no longer around) for about 3 years before moving on to Lytham & St Annes. He stayed there until 1919 when he moved onto Hesketh Golf Club, the oldest golf club in Southport. It's thought he was there until the 1930.
