Rowing Oar, Merton College.
The full length 12' oar is a traditional Merton College (Oxford University) presentation rowing oar with calligraphy and college insignia. The writing on the trophy blade is in very good condition giving the names and weights of the crew and the colleges they 'Bumped'.

The trophy blade reads:-

This oar is a later adaptation of an original. The oar itself is made by Ailing and is from the 1940s. It must have been painted any time after that, maybe the 1960 or 70ies.
We have four oars and the work is well and professionally done, and we guess that the original oars have probably been damaged or they where done for decorative purposes as they all came from the Randolph Hotel in Oxford.
