Vintage Enamel Cloisonné Hip Flask, Russian.

Sold

Vintage Cloisonné And Silver Hip Flask.
A very nice silver hip flask with a curved body, hinged lid with screw fitting and decorated throughout with coloured foliage enamels between blue beaded borders and on a gilt metal background. The flask is in an Imperial Russian manner and is in excellent original condition. The lid hinge stamped '84' with a 'double headed eagle surmounted by a crown' mark.

Cloisonné is an enamelling technique for decorating metalwork objects. The decoration is formed by first adding compartments or cells to the surface of the object to be decorated by soldering or affixing silver or gold wires or thin strips placed on their edges. Each cell then holds a single colour of enamel powder which is made into a paste, which is then fired in a kiln.
