Antique Lillywhite Ridge Top Ash Skis.
Ash ridge top skis with rounded tips, galvanised safety bindings and plastic foot plates. The bindings have adjustable toe irons, cable bindings with coiled heel springs. The skis are light brown in colour with a polished finish, the running surface having a single groove along its length and with metal edge runners. The rear of the tip branded 'Marius Eriksen, Oslo, Made In Norway, Selected by Lillywhites Ltd' the front with colourful decal 'Marius Eriksen Patent, Streamlines, Norge'.
Adjustable toe irons with cable and coiled heel springs were very popular from the mid 1930's to early 1950's, although there were many design variations of these bindings.
Frederick William Lillywhite, more commonly known as William Lillywhite or "Old Lilly" was a man of ingenuity and exceptional skill and the patriarch of a famous cricketing family. Known and referred to by his contemporaries as the "Nonpareil".
