Vanity Fair print 'Phil' after Spy.
A mounted chromolithograph print published 21st February, 1895, by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son Ltd. Lith., for Vanity Fair. The picture is titled 'Phil' and is an original print of Phil May by Spy and in good condition but with slight marking. Phil is shown in his overcoat sat on a stool with a bowler hat, holding an empty glass and smoking a cigar.
Phil May (1864 - 1903) was an English caricaturist and became a regular member of the staff of Punch in 1896. Later his services were retained exclusively for Punch and The Graphic. In 1898 he was a founder member of the London Sketch Club.
