Antique Bagatelle Coffee Table, Billiard Snooker

Sold

Victorian Mahogany Tabletop Bagatelle Game.
This is the parlour version of the very popular French game of Bagatelle. This is a beautiful folding mahogany table top Bagatelle game board that has had a base made for it to make it useable as a coffee table. When closed there is an end board to keep all the balls and cues safe. To play the board is laid onto a table or floor, there is a scoreboard (cribbage style) down the sides of the playing surface and at the scoring end there are 9 boxwood cups with painted black numbers on to indicate the score. When open the playing board measures 15 inches by 60 inches and comes with four red balls, four white balls and one black and comes with two short cues. Manufacturer unknown. The baize cloth is in playable condition.
The rules of Bagatelle are quite fluid, as in there has never been an authoritative national body dictating standard rules for bagatelle in the same way as snooker or billiards, so a variety of different tables and rules have appeared.
