Victor Geruzez (Crafty) Polo Watercolour.
A wonderful polo water colour surrounded by pen and ink vignettes. This rare polo picture is in it's original oak frame and was painted by "Crafty", real name Victor Geruzez ,1840-1906. The polo watercolour shows a polo match with four players, two from each side, challenging for the ball. The surrounding vignettes show the progress of the match with spectators watching from behind some railings. It is signed, "Crafty ", twice - in the watercolour and in the pen and ink vignettes. There is a paper trade label to the rear of the frame by the framers "Neuville & Vivien, Tableaux - Estampers, Objets D'art, Expertises, Place Beauvau, 90 Faubourg Saint - Honore, Paris (VIII).

Victor Geruzez was a well renowned 19th Century French illustrator who exhibited at the Paris Salon regularly from 1877 and contributed to most of the popular journals of the day including La Vie Parisienne ,Le Journal pour Rire, Graphic and the highly influential Maitres de L'Affiche . He was very popular and his originals are now highly sought after.
