A good pair of oak framed fishing pictures after the painting by Dendy Sadler entitled 'Thursday' and 'Friday'. 'Thursday' shows the monks fishing near their monastery for the next day's meal, whilst 'Friday' shows them around the table eating their catch, Friday being the day Catholics traditionally abstain from eating meat.

Image size: 21" wide by 11 ¼" high.

Walter Dendy Sadler (1854 - 1923) was born in the south of England in Dorking. At 16 he enrolled at Heatherly's School of art in London to become a painter. He exhibited at the Dudley Gallery from 1872 and at the Royal Academy from the following year into the 1890's. He liked to paint his subjects attired in old world costumes as can be seen in his golf works.
