Royal Doulton Fishing Bowl, The Gallant Fishers
Royal Doulton Fishing Bowl, The Gallant Fishers
Vintage Royal Doulton Fishing Ceramic.
A Royal Doulton Series Ware 'The Gallant Fishers' Fishing bowl. The bowl is with a polychrome fishing scene of two fisherman sitting on a wall. The inscription around the edge reads 'And When The Timrous Trout I Wait To Take And He Devours My Bait'. The bottom has the pattern number D3680 and has the special "The Gallant Fishers" back stamp. The stamp looks like an old English shop sign in the shape of a fish, bearing the words Royal Doulton "The Gallant Fishers" made in England.
The Gallant Fishers series was introduced in around 1913 and was withdrawn by 1936.
It is thought that Royal Doulton Series Ware was the brainchild of Charles John Noke, and 'The Gallant Fishers' series was inspired by the works of Isaac Walton. The humorous characters are very reminiscent of Charles Crombie works.
