J.J.S. Walker, Bampton & Co. was formed in 1913 by three ex senior employees of Hardy Bros. Originally started by John James Selby Walker in 1907, a cabinet maker employed by Hardy's to make rods. In 1911 William Henry Dingley, who was responsible for the design of Hardy's 'Silex' casting reels and involved in the design of the 'Perfect' reel, left Hardy's and manufactured his own reels. By 1912 Charles Sewell Bampton had also left the company and all three became directors of the new company.
