Vintage Hardy Hardex Fishing Reel
Vintage Hardy Hardex Fishing Reel
Hardy Hardex Fishing Reel.
A great fixed spool fishing reel by Hardy of Alnwick, England. The reel is is very good condition with half bale arm, a bakelite spool and brass drag. The side plate has the coat of arms of King George V with the Prince of Wales feathers and Hardy's details with the model number and mark number of the reel, which is No.II & MK II. The reel finish is a greyish green colour with a metallic sheen which was used in the early 50's and was soon changed to a charcoal grey, probably circa 1953/54. Hardy introduced the first 'Hardex' reel for the 1937 fishing season and was in production until 1959. It was designed and priced to compete in the lower end of the market place and compared most favourably beside the reels offered by Hardy's competitors. The 'Hardex' immediately established itself as one of hardy's most popular models in terms of volume and a total of 1,984 reels were produced during the first year alone.
One of the images is a copy showing the entry for the "Hardex" in a Hardy's Anglers' Guide & Catalogue.
