Antique Oak Club Fender
Antique Oak Club Fender
Oak Club Fender With Leather Seat.
A wonderful club fender with barley twist supports, shaped oak base and with the front open for access to the fire. The fireplace fender with square upholstered leather seats at each end, inside measurement between the seats being 1m 10cm. The idea with the open front of the fender is to retain access to the fire and to allow more heat to escape into the room. With a fender you add an extra dimension to a fireplace by providing more seating and with a seat at each end you can keep warm on these chilly winter nights.
Fenders were all the rage in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries and were found in Gentleman's Clubs, libraries and billiard rooms of country houses.

Very nice condition. It looks like this fender may have had a front rail at one time.
