Vintage Mah-jong, Mahjong set.
A good Mah-jong, Mahjong, Mah Jongg set in hardwood carry case. The case with five trays, four with the painted tiles with bamboo backs (total of 144 tiles). The bottom drawer of the case holds 4 plain tiles, 4 wind discs, dice, selection of scoring sticks and four circular markers. Between World War I & II, Mahjong became an enormously popular after dinner activity and thankfully this fantastic game is now enjoying a resurgence in popularity.

Mah-jong is a four-player game involving skill, strategy, and calculation, as well as a certain degree of luck. Depending on the variation which is played, luck can be anything from a minor to a dominant factor in success. The object of the game is to build complete suits - or melds - while keeping an eye on your opponents and judging how close to winning they seem to be. As in poker it is important to know when to play aggressively and when to resort to defensive play. It is enjoyed not only as a social activity and a form of family recreation, but also for gambling and serious competition. The game is played with a set of tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols, bamboos, dots and characters. Although there are many variations in the way Mahjong is played and scored, the basic pieces used in the game are quite similar all over the world. A standard Mahjong set will contain playing pieces called "tiles," a pair of dice, a number of stick-like counters used to keep track of the score, and eight "bonus tiles" not used in play. Many Mahjong sets have the numbers 1~9 printed on the suit tiles to make it easier to identify their values.
