Vintage Fortnum and Mason Gaming chips.
Gaming or roulette chips (counters) in a nice brown leather case by Fortnum & Mason Ltd., Piccadilly, London. The box contains one lift out tray, as with the fixed base, there are five compartments housing the gaming chips. The chips have a value of 1, 5, 20 and 50. Along the bottom of the box the following words are embossed in gilt 'FORTNUM & MASON LTD, PICCADILLY'. The box and chips are in extremely good condition.
Fortnum's began in 1707, when royal footman William Fortnum set up shop in St James's with his landlord, Hugh Mason. Since then Fortnum & Mason has been an intrinsic part of the nation's history and has a fascinating story to tell. To find out more of the story go to Fortnum & Mason's web site.
