Pair of Hickory Golf Clubs, J.H. Taylor Autograph Irons.
A pair of J.H. Taylor hickory shafted golf clubs, a Mashie and Niblick. The club heads stamped 'Cann & Taylor, Warranted Hand Forged, with J. H.Taylor 'Autograph' with the Reg. No. 303868/08' and the retailers details 'Lane Crawford Ltd, Hong Kong'. The clubs are in original condition with suede leather grips and original hickory shafts both stamped Lane Crawford Ltd, Hong Kong with the J.H Taylor autograph. The face with square dot puntched face markings and the rear of the club head also has the Cann & Taylor 'Fliweel' cleek mark which was used between 1895 and 1930.
A great pair of irons in good original condition and very usable for modern hickory play.
Approximate loft of the Mashie is 32°, 36 ½ inches in length, and the Niblick is 45°, 36 inches in length.
Lane Crawford Ltd. was founded in Hong Kong in 1850 and is a retail company with speciality stores selling luxury goods in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Established by two Scots, Thomas Ash Lane and Ninian Crawford, Lane Crawford Ltd. opened a shop in a makeshift bamboo structure on the waterfront of what is now Des Voeux Road. Since that time, Lane Crawford has occupied a number of prime retail sites along Des Voeux Road and Queen's Road Central; in the early 1900's it also had stores in Guangzhou and Shanghai in China, and Kobe and Tokyo in Japan. It has been a tailor, and outfitter, a draper, a provisions dealer, a wine and spirits merchant, an auctioneer of antiques, a baker, a restaurant and a bar.
