Antique Long Nose Golf Club By Tom Morris
Antique Long Nose Golf Club By Tom Morris
Long Nose Scared Head Tom Morris Golf Club, St Andrews.
An elegant scared head long nose baffing spoon by perhaps the most influential figure in the history of golf, Tom Morris of St Andrews. A great looking club with a lead weight to the rear and the traditional horn slip along the leading edge of the sole, the black stained polished beech wood head is stamped 'T. Morris'. The original hickory shaft with full-length sheep skin grip with underlisting. This is a very nice example of a scared head golf club from the mid 1860's in great condition. The well lofted curved faced has been repaired at some stage by adding a small leather face insert to the toe to allow the club to still be used. Tom was a 19th century pioneer of golf, affectionately known as 'Old Tom'. He was a great golfer with multiple wins in the British Open, as well as a club maker, a green-keeper and a course designer.
Approximate head size:-
a = 10cm
b = 2.9cm
c = 4.8cm
The early clubs are made with long slender shallow-faced heads with an ash or hickory shaft glued to the head by means of a splice or scare joint. This joint is then further strengthened by whipping with a pitched thread. All beautifully hand made by craftsmen of the time.

In good condition with a very old repair. This repair would have been done at a time when the club was still in use.
