Blade Putter By Willie Dunn
Blade Putter By Willie Dunn
Dunbar Duplex Putter, Willie Dunn.
A good hickory shafted blade putter by Willie (William) Dunn. The club can be used by a left or right handed golfer, has a thick polished suede grip. The club head stamped with Dunn's circular mark with the words 'DUNBAR' towards the toe. Hickory shaft stamped 'J & D Clark, Special' just below the grip.
J. & D. Clark had a short period in the 1890's as golf club, ball manufactures and suppliers. Their business was supplying the wholesale and export markets with works and warehouse in Musselburgh and branches in Dunbar and Edinburgh. By 1896 the Clark brothers were recognised as the second largest club firm in Scotland, employing over forty men, not bad for two apprentice club and ball makers from Willie Park's factory in Musselburgh. As it turns out their most successful product was their gutta percha balls, especially the 'Musselburgh'. It was a big seller in Britain but an even bigger seller in the States.
