Vintage Golf club, W.E Brown of Broxbourne Golf Club.
A good quality No. 3 Iron with a loft of 22 °, in modern terms probably a 4 iron. The club with square hand punched face markings, hickory shaft and leather grip. The golf club head stamped with the 'anchor' mark of the Stadium Golf Co., London. Stadium did not forge their own club heads, but instead had them made for them by the well known cleek makers the Gourlays. The Gourlay family came from Carnoustie and both father and son were named James. One of their cleek marks was also an 'anchor' but of a slightly different design to that of the Stadium Co. that came into use circa 1925. The Gourlays also forged heads for other makers, most notably Robert Simpson. This club was made for W.E Brown who was the professional at Broxbourne Golf Club, Hertfordshire between 1923 until the late 1930's. He was an assistant to John Sherlock at Stoke Poges Golf Club, there after a Professional at Bishops Stortford Golf club before Broxbourne.

All in good original condition and usable for hickory play.

If you are wishing to play some hickory golf the best balls to play with are low compression balls that will give at impact, such as ladies balls or soft feel balls.
