Robert Forgan Golf Club, Smooth Face Iron
Robert Forgan Golf Club, Smooth Face Iron
Forgan & Son Golf Club, Smooth Face Mashie.
This early Forgan & Son hickory shafted mashie has a smooth face, hickory shaft and sheep skin grip. This is a fine example of a smooth face club which also has good strong nicking around the hosel. The rear of the head stamped 'R. Forgan & Son, St Andrews' with the 'King's Crown' cleek mark. Hickory shaft with scratched initials 'VE'.
The measurements shown are the length of the shaft with hosel and the width and depth of the face.
Robert Forgan became clubmaker to HRH Prince of Wales in 1863 and used the prince's plume of three feathers as his mark until 1901, when upon the Prince became King Edward his mark changed to the 'King's Crown'.
