Urquhart Adjustable Golf Club
Urquhart Adjustable Golf Club
Antique Patent Adjustable Iron Golf Club by Urquhart.
An Urquhart adjustable golf club with hickory shaft in good condition by Robert Urquhart. The club face with line score marks, to the center is a circle with criss-cross score lines inside and contains the word 'URQUHART', the back of the toe shows the trademark "U" inside a circle and the production No. ?2997, the same number is on the back of the hosel and Urquharts patent. The original hickory shaft with sheepskin grip, shaft stamped '299?'. The club has an adjustable blade which can be modified to allow for any loft from a driving cleek to a lofting iron to a putter, meaning it is the only club a golfer needs to carry. This is probably the best design of an adjustable club and is very simple to use. Simply pushing in the lever on the hosel whilst pulling out the spring-loaded blade to disengage the cogs means the club face can be rotated to the desired position. Once released back in to place the cogs hold the club face at the required loft.
At some time a limited company was formed, Urquhart's Patents Limited, in Edinburgh, 5 St Andrew Square in the New Town. The Urquhart mark was used from 1892 to 1906.
This is a fine desirable hickory golf club and one for the collector.
The measurements shown are the length of the shaft with hosel and the width and depth of the face.
