Vintage J. Roberts & Son Leather Cartridge Magazine Case.
A fine leather shooting shotgun cartridge magazine case by J. Roberts & Son, Covent Garden, London. The high quality cartridge case with oak carcass covered in tan leather, it has a working brass lock but no key. The magazine case is in very good original condition with brass corner protectors and single leather central carry handle (possibly replaced). The interior with polished oak finish and containing three oak removable dividers, making four compartments, with adjustable leather cartridge lifting straps. The inside of the lid is green baize with a J. Roberts & Son trade label. The lid with embossed black initials 'B.P.S'.

We believe the case is older (circa 1910) than the trade label suggests. Joseph Roberts' son, Paul Roberts, joined the business in 1959 when the name changed from J. Roberts & Co. to J. Roberts & Son. Possible Roberts refurbished the magazine case and added their own label to the lid.

A cartridge magazine is a traditional method of storing cartridges between shoots. When on a shoot the cartridges needed would be removed and placed in a cartridge bag.
