h1 classbiography James Gourlayh1The Gourlay family came from Carnoustie and both father and son were named James. The Gourlays made clubs for many years and forged many club heads for Robert Simpson and other club makers. These heads can be identified by the Gourlay cleek marks of the anchor crescent moon & star or horseshoe marks. Originally operating as a blacksmiths forge in 1893 Gourlay snr probably hand forged some wrought cleeks and irons in this period. 1904 brought in the change to machine production.
