Hazell Streamline Tennis Racket, Green Star.

The racket frame is in good condition, slight warping, transfers/decals in great condition. The leather grip is the original (small piece missing) and it still has the leather butt cap with the Hazell 'H'. This is a great example of this iconic racket made popular by 'Bunny' Austin. The stringing has been replaced.
The throat with decal 'Green, with a five pointed STAR', on one side plain on the other. Racket decal 'Hazells' Streamline, RegD & patented', with another decal showing all the countries the racket is patented in with their corresponding patent No. The countries being Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Holland, India, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, U.S.A. & Great Britain.
The last image shows a 1930's advert for the Hazell rackets and the U.S.A patent application.
The design of the Streamline racket was filed for patent in Great Britain on December 31st, 1934 and in the United States of America nearly a year later, December 17th, 1935. The patents were applied for by Frank W Donisthorpe, a former tennis player and its inventor. The company made tennis, badminton and squash rackets named red, blue and green star. They also produced a painted white and an aqua colour racket. Bunny Austin, the English tennis champion, actively promoted the Streamline racket. It was popular not just for its eye catching design but also for the practicality of its light weight. Hazells were originally supplied in different grades depending on the number of laminations in the racket. The higher quality, rarer model is the 'White' star. Other models being 'Blue', 'Red' and 'Green'. Bunny Austin played with an all Blue/Aqua and all White Hazell racket.
One of their adverts reads:- The New Wonder of tennis. Hazells' "STREAMLINE" Patented and registered Design.
