Antique F.H. Ayres Lawn Tennis Racket.
A rare, early lopsided (tilt head or teardrop shape) lawn tennis racquet in good original condition by F.H. Ayres of London. The heavy ash lop sided frame is in very good condition, the walnut convex wedge is stamped with the maker's name 'F.H. Ayres, 13oz ¼, Warranted, London'. The original period thick gut stringing is in very good condition with only a couple of broken vertical strings (two replaced horizontal strings) which is very acceptable for a racket of this age. It has eight rows of trebling to the top and five to the bottom. The handle grip is made up of the ash frame with applied fruit wood fascia strips finished with a leather butt strip.
