F. H. Ayres Table Tennis Set.
A table tennis, ping pong, set made by F. H. Ayres in the original mahogany box. The box is with two bats, a net and two turned mahogany net posts with brass fittings, with the interior lined with green baize and a Hammond & Hussey Ltd. trade label to lid. There is a little instruction pamphlet by Ayres with the two bats or racquets in good original condition. The rackets are almost identically made to their larger lawn tennis cousins, even down to the small convex wedge with single screw fixing and bent ash frame. The strings are slightly damaged on one racket, the other is perfect. There is a gilt trademark on the wedges "Gem".

F.H.Ayres was established in 1810 and manufactured golf and games as early as the 1880's. The 'Maltese Cross' mark of F.H.Ayres was in use from about 1910, they were eventually bought out by Slazenger.
