Vintage Ex-military Ice Axe, Delpic.
A good ' ex-military war department' ice axe, the handle is made from ash with a good serrated steel pick and with a wide adze. This is a fine quality ice pick with canvas leash, a pointed flat spike and a metal ferrule. The head is stamped 'Brades, 1943, with a broad arrow (crows foot)'. The broad arrow (crows foot) indicating that it was Government Issue. The wooden handle stamped 'J.W. Galey'. A very good vintage ice pick in good original condition.
Ice axes are multipurpose tools used by mountaineers in both the ascent and descent of routes in frozen conditions.
