A good willow cricket bat by Gradidge of London. The "Colin Cowdrey Autograph" bat is in good condition with nice patina. The blade is embossed with a crown on each shoulder, the words 'Gradidge' under one, 'London' under the other. Also embossed 'Short handle, Gradidge, Made In England, Colin Cowdrey with a facsimile of his autograph underneath, Kent & England, Super'. The blade also embossed with retailers details 'Wright Bros. Canterbury'.
Michael Colin Cowdrey, Lord Cowdrey, Baron Cowdrey of Tonbridge was Captain of Oxford University, Kent County Cricket Club and the England cricket team in a career that lasted from 1950 to 1976. He was the first cricketer to play in 100 Test matches and held the records for the most runs by a batsman and most catches by a fielder in Test cricket.
