Angler's Japanned Tin Salmon Fly Reservoir.
A high-quality black japanned tin salmon fly reservoir, likely dating from the early to mid-20th century, with craftsmanship comparable to pieces produced by Hardy Bros. or Farlows, although the maker is unmarked.
The rectangular case features a fall-front door that opens to reveal seven removable slide-out fly trays, each finished in matching black japanning with cream-painted interiors. Every tray is fitted with nickel silver spring clips for securely holding flies, a central brass swivel handle for easy removal, and twin ivorine index tabs at either end, allowing the contents of each tray to be clearly identified.
The reservoir contains an impressive collection of 287 fully dressed eyed salmon flies in a wide variety of patterns and sizes, making it both a practical angler's cabinet and an attractive collector's piece.
The exterior is fitted with a swing carry handle and a sliding pin lock with padlock clasp, allowing the case to be securely fastened. The top also bears the white-painted initials of a previous owner, adding to its period character and provenance.
