Vintage Hardy Palakona Trout Fly Fishing Rod.
The Hardy 'Palakona' is a fine split cane 2-piece rod made by Hardy's of Alnwick. The 9ft 6" rod with crimson intermediate silk whipping, cork cigar shape handle, agate butt line guard and sliding alloy reel fitting with serial number C143 dating it to 1919. It comes with wooden stopper in the spiral 'lockfast' joint fitting and original canvas bag. The rod has the painted black inscription spiralling around the shaft 'Palakona' and 'Regd. no.246936'.
Palakona is the trade name given by Hardy's to their best quality, the tonkin bamboo rods.
